What is a Stage 1, in practice?

Your engine leaves the factory with parameters the manufacturer has deliberately held back. Those limits exist for several reasons: type approval, safety margin, and commercial separation between trim levels.

A Stage 1 remaps the ECU to optimise those parameters while staying within the mechanical limits of the standard engine. The result: more power, more torque, and a sharper throttle response.

Real-world gains

Gains vary enormously with the vehicle, the engine and the ECU. There is no universal figure. Here are realistic orders of magnitude:

Stage 1 vs Stage 2 — what is the difference?

Stage 1 requires no mechanical modification. Stage 2 is tuned for a vehicle with hardware changes: downpipe, uprated intercooler, intake and so on.

For everyday use, Stage 1 is the best compromise: more performance, better drivability, and no added risk.
