Stage 1 is the most accessible and most common form of engine remapping. Nothing needs to change mechanically on your vehicle — the work is done entirely in the ECU software.
💡 In short: A Stage 1 is an optimisation of the engine ECU parameters — injection, boost, ignition advance — to draw out everything the standard engine has to give.
What is a Stage 1, in practice?
Your engine leaves the factory with parameters the manufacturer has deliberately held back. Those limits exist for several reasons: type approval, safety margin, and commercial separation between trim levels.
A Stage 1 remaps the ECU to optimise those parameters while staying within the mechanical limits of the standard engine. The result: more power, more torque, and a sharper throttle response.
Real-world gains
Gains vary enormously with the vehicle, the engine and the ECU. There is no universal figure. Here are realistic orders of magnitude:
- Turbo petrol engines (TSI, TFSI, N55…) → 20 to 60 hp and 40 to 80 Nm gain
- Turbo diesel engines (TDI, HDi, dCi…) → 20 to 50 hp and 50 to 100 Nm gain
- Naturally aspirated engines → more modest gains, typically 5 to 15 hp
Be wary of anyone quoting exact figures without knowing your vehicle. The gain depends on what your engine can actually give.
Is it risky?
A Stage 1 done properly on a healthy vehicle is not dangerous for the engine. It stays inside the mechanical tolerances the manufacturer designed for.
The risks are real if:
- The engine is worn or has failing parts
- The file is badly written (errors in the map)
- It is flashed onto an incompatible vehicle
✅ Our guarantee: Every file we write is developed and tested. If there is a problem, we rework it at no extra cost.
How does it actually work?
- You read the original file with your tool (Kess, KTAG, MPPS…)
- You send us the file through our form or on WhatsApp
- We build your Stage 1 map to order
- You get your tuned file back in 30 min to 90 min
- You flash it and drive

Upload your ECU file and get your map back in under 90 minutes.
Works with every tool — Stage 1 from €55.
Stage 1 vs Stage 2 — what is the difference?
Stage 1 requires no mechanical modification. Stage 2 is tuned for a vehicle with hardware changes: downpipe, uprated intercooler, intake and so on.
For everyday use, Stage 1 is the best compromise: more performance, better drivability, and no added risk.
